There are over 100 all-new features in Apple’s fresh version of iOS 16. Some of these features are subtle changes you may not even notice unless you're a die-hard Apple fan. But with this latest update, many radical design changes may be a bit difficult to adjust to.
In this guide, we will share tips on how to smoothly transition into your newly updated iPhone. We'll share all the settings you can change to make this version feel more familiar, and how to use the updated features for your benefit. We will also include some battery-saving tips specific to iOS 16.

What’s new in iOS 16?

1. The lock screen gets a makeover. A lot has changed here, but luckily the redesigned lock screen is highly customizable. Later in the article, we will share a video guide for it.

2. New features for messaging: within 15 minutes of sending an iMessage, you can edit or unsend it, so long as the recipient has also updated to iOS 16. Simply tap and hold your message, and an options bar will appear. The recipient will be able to see that you edited or deleted a message. However, they won’t be able to see the original version.

3. The weather app gets a makeover: the recently updated version is more detailed, with an hour-by-hour, ten-day forecast.

4. Face ID now works in landscape mode (when you hold your phone horizontally).

5. A new search bar is located at the bottom of the screen. Later we will share how to change it.

6. Haptic keyboard: this recent version of iOS offers haptic feedback on your iPhone keyboard. Every keyboard tap will trigger a focused vibration in addition to sound. This new feature makes it satisfying and comfortable to type on your iPhone, but it’s also a major battery drainer. It is off by default, so to try it go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Keyboard Feedback > Toggle haptic on.

7. Now you can see the Wi-Fi password of the network you’re connected to. From the Settings app, go to Wi-Fi, tap on your network, and click on the hidden password to reveal it.

How do I customize my iPhone lock screen?

The newly released iOS update allows you to create multiple lock screens and save them all, so you can switch between them quickly and effortlessly.

To start customizing, tap and hold your lock screen. You can customize the font and color of the digital clock. You can decide what information will show on the lock screen. You can also decide how new notifications will be displayed. Until now, notifications appeared at the top of the screen, and in this most recent update, they will appear at the bottom. This video explains everything you need to know about the iOS 16 Lock Screen:

Another part of the lock screen is the music app. There are many new ways to control music through the lock screen, all explained in the video below.

How do I get rid of the bottom search bar on my iPhone?

The iPhone search bar allows you to locate messages, notes, and apps quickly and efficiently. In previous versions of iOS, you could reach the search bar by pulling the screen down from any point on the display. Now, iOS 16 allows you to access the search bar from the bottom of the screen. However, if you feel like this added feature clutters your screen, you can get rid of it. Once you do, you’ll be able to access the search bar as you did before by simply pulling the display down.

From the Settings app scroll down to Home Screen. At the bottom of the menu, under “Search” toggle off “Show on Home Screen.“

How do I change the notification display on my lock screen?

This version of iOS allows you to customize how notifications will show on your screen in three ways: count, stack, and list.

Count mode is the most discreet. It will only show the number of notifications you have at the bottom of the screen.

Stack mode lets you avoid clutter. Only the most recent notification will show up, while the rest are hidden behind it to form a stack of notifications.

List mode is most similar to past versions of iOS. Every notification will appear separately, but they will do so from the bottom up and not vice versa. If you want the most familiar feel, stick with list mode.

Another new change that may be a bit confusing is the reformatting of the Notes app. If you use it often, you may have noticed that your notes are now grouped by date. To change that, go to the Settings app, scroll down until you find Notes, scroll down a bit more, and then toggle off “Group Notes by Date.”

Battery saving tips for iOS 16

1. As satisfying as it may be, we recommend turning off keyboard haptics. Instructions on how to modify these settings can be found in the "What's new" section at the beginning of the article.

2. Turn off art animation in the music app. From Settings, scroll down until you find Music. Tap it, and turn off animated art.

3. Try using Dark Mode. Not only is it kind to the eyes, but it is also healthier for your battery life. From the Settings app, tap Display and Brightness, and choose “Dark.”
