Can Holding Your Partner's Hand Ease Pain? Studies Say Yes

A loving and caring touch shows just how important a person is to you. Undeniably, it also comforts you during hard times, sickness, or if you're in pain. It turns out there is an explanation for this. A recent study discovered why human touch can be so powerful and just as helpful as medicine.

It may sound incredible, but when a romantic partner holds your hand when you are in pain, it actually causes you to start suffering less and feel less discomfort. It is known to cure and heal. But how? Let's take a look at the mechanism of this easy remedy since scientists have explained how it works.

According to Goldstein, a psychologist studying the power of human touch, all we need is love and sincere human touch. Goldstein discovered that there was a new side of love and decided to do an experiment with his wife during the birth of his daughter. After which, more than 20 couples were tested in a lab over the course of one year.

It turns out that being close to each other, even without touch, caused brain wave synchronicity that increased the most when couples held hands while the laboring woman was in pain. To test this further, Electroencephalography helped to actually measure this brainwave activity.

They discovered one more important thing: "It appears that pain totally interrupts this interpersonal synchronization between couples and touch brings it back."

So, whenever your partner is in any pain, don't be afraid to touch him or her. Your healing touch can ease suffering and will prevent any disease from breaking the synchronization and connection between the two of you.

If you're in any pain, you can give it a go right now. Simply take your partner's hand and hold it for a while. You might notice your heart rate and breathing are synchronizing. You might not feel it, but it does happen. And it's not just your heart rate, but your breathing too. In addition, your brainwave patterns also sync up. You can also double the effect by feeling more empathy for your sick partner. Comforting them with these feelings can help you attain the best results. The more synchronized you and your partner are, the better this technique will work.
