8 Remedies for Dark Knees and Elbows

Do you suffer from dark knees and elbows? This could be a result of dead skin cells, friction, extensive exposure to sun or a hormonal imbalance. These parts of our body don't contain any oil glands, so it's important to protect them from dryness through proper care and hygiene. Here are 8 effective techniques to help you nourish your skin and remove dark patches. 
 
 
1. Cucumber

Cucumber is the most effective means of getting rid of dark knees and elbows due to its bleaching properties. Cucumber removes dead skin cells and keeps your skin moisturized. Vitamins A and C, present in cucumbers, helps keep the skin beautiful and fresh. Simply rub thick slices of cucumber over your elbows and knees and leave it to set for 15 minutes. Then wash off with cold water. You can also mix equal amounts of cucumber juice and lemon juice and apply the mixture to your knees, elbows, and underarms. Allow the mix to sit for 20 minutes then rinse it off. 

2. Lemon and baking soda

Lemon is a fantastic ingredient that can be used to lighten the skin. Lemons are packed with antioxidants and vitamin C which promote skin regeneration and improve skin complexion. Meanwhile, baking soda acts as a gentle and effective cleanser for whitening dark areas of the skin. Simply take a lemon and cut it into two halves. Then sprinkle one tablespoon of baking soda on top of the lemon and rub it onto your elbows and knees for one minute. Let it sit for 15 minutes and wash off with warm water. Repeat once every two days, until you're satisfied with the results. 

3. Aloe Vera and milk

Aloe vera is known for its benefits and is especially known to moisturize the skin and improve the skin tone. It also has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. The combination of Aloe Vera and milk will help further lighten your skin. To do this, mix equal amounts of milk and Aloe Vera gel and apply the mixture to your skin. Leave it on overnight and wash it off in the morning. 

4. Potato

Potatoes are rich in catecholase enzymes which can naturally lighten your skin tone. Using it daily will soften your skin and help you get rid of dark patches. Simply grate the potato, squeezing out the juice and apply it to your skin, allowing it to set for 15 minutes, then rinse with water and apply a moisturizer. 

 
5. Turmeric

Turmeric is the most natural remedy to remove impurities and dead skin cells from your knees and elbows without any side effects. Turmeric contains a compound known as curcumin which reduces and regulates the excess production of melanin responsible for dark complexions. To reap the benefits mix some turmeric powder with one teaspoon of milk then apply it to affected areas, massaging the mixture in for a few minutes, allowing it to dry naturally. Then rinse with warm water. 

6. Coconut oil

Coconut oil contains essential fatty acids and vitamin E that helps repair dark and damaged skin. After a shower apply coconut oil to the affected areas and massage gently for two to three minutes until the oil becomes absorbed into the skin. You can also add 1/2 a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice to 1 teaspoon of coconut oil and gently massage it into your knees and elbows. 

7. Honey

Honey is a natural moisturizer and works especially well in moisturizing the skin. To reap the benefits mix two tablespoons of honey with half a lemon juice and one teaspoon of baking soda. Then apply the mixture over darkened areas and let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes and wash off. You can also mix honey with milk and Aloe Vera. Apply the paste to your skin and leave it for 15 minutes, rinsing it off with warm water. 

8. Sugar and olive oil

For a homemade scrub to nourish, hydrate and remove dead skin cells from your skin prepare a scrub made from sugar and olive oil in equal amounts. Then apply it to the knees and elbows and massage in circular motions for about five minutes. Repeat this on a weekly basis.
